For those of us still mourning the passing of the peerless Robert B. Parker, there is always Robert Crais to fall back on. His duo, Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are more or less LA doppelgangers for Boston's Spenser and Hawk. What Crais lacks (in comparison with RBP) is urbanity and knowingness and a certain literary nuance, but he makes up for it with far richer plot lines and - much though I am of course besotted with her - no annoyingly perfect Susan Silverman to slow things down and be understanding. Just finished 'Lullaby Town'. First class.
