OLD HOLIDAY PHOTOS by John McCormack

How blue the pool was,
and the sea.  How blue the sky,
and the waves white-tipped
crashing, still, against the dark rocks.

How dark the wine was,
and the sun low. The dark
bottles of wine, and the table
flecked with plates of food.

How young the children were
climbing, laughing, from the pool,
then tumbling into sprays of water.

How young we were too, smiling
towards this future, this dusty
spread of forgotten pictures,
discarded like playing cards,
from some long-forgotten game.
